Sunday Me Day DIY: The Thankful Tree

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”

November is the season of gratitude — but more than that, it’s a time to pause and truly notice the beauty in the little things. This week’s Sunday Me Day project is simple, yet so meaningful: creating your own Thankful Tree.

It’s a craft that grows with you all month long, reminding you that joy doesn’t always come from what we gain — it often blooms from what we already have.

Why a Thankful Tree?

Life moves fast. Between responsibilities, routines, and the noise of every day, it’s easy to forget to stop and appreciate the moments that make our hearts lighter — the laughter at dinner, the smell of morning coffee, the person who texted just to check in.

The Thankful Tree is your gentle reminder to notice those moments. Each leaf you add represents something — or someone — that brings meaning, peace, or love into your life.

Over the month, your tree will grow, and with it, so will your sense of gratitude.

 Supplies You’ll Need

  • A few branches or twigs – gathered from outside or from a craft store

  • A vase or mason jar – to hold your branches upright

  • Paper leaves – cut from colored paper or cardstock (or use leaf-shaped tags)

  • Twine, string, or mini clothespins – to attach your leaves

  • Pen or fine-tip marker – for writing your daily gratitude notes

  • Optional: faux moss, stones, ribbon, or fairy lights – for extra charm

How to Create Your Thankful Tree

  1. Prepare your base.
Choose a vase or jar that feels special — maybe something vintage, or one that already holds a memory. Add a few stones or moss to anchor your branches.

  2. Arrange your branches.
Place 3–5 small branches in the jar so they fan out naturally, creating space for your leaves to hang.

  3. Cut your leaves.
You can use warm fall colors like burnt orange, mustard, and cream — or soft neutrals to match your home’s calm aesthetic.

  4. Add gratitude daily.
Each day in November, take a quiet moment to write one thing you’re thankful for on a leaf.
It can be something big — my family — or something small — the warmth of my favorite blanket.

  5. Attach the leaves.
Use twine, string, or clothespins to hang your leaves. Watch as your tree fills with love and little reminders of grace.

Reflection Moment

When your month feels busy or your mind feels heavy, sit near your Thankful Tree.
Read the words on your leaves.
Notice how much beauty already exists in your everyday life.

This project isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence.
It’s about creating a moment to breathe, reflect, and let gratitude become a habit, one leaf at a time.

 Grace Note

Your Thankful Tree isn’t just decoration.
It’s a story — a living reflection of how far you’ve come and how deeply you’re learning to see the good, even in the small things.

May every leaf remind you that grace grows quietly, in the spaces between what you hoped for and what you already have.
