The Family Kindness Draw: Small Acts, Big Love
“When love is shared in small ways, it grows in big ones.”
This week’s Family & Connection focus is all about bringing more kindness — and a little fun — into your home.
It’s called The Family Kindness Draw — a simple weekly tradition where each family member’s name goes into a hat or basket. Every week, one name is drawn, and the family focuses on doing one small act of kindness for that person.
It’s a game of love, creativity, and connection — and a reminder that kindness doesn’t have to be grand to make a difference.
How It Works:
-
Gather together.
Write each family member’s name on a small piece of paper and place them in a jar, bowl, or basket. -
Draw one name each week.
Whoever is chosen becomes that week’s “Kindness Focus.” Everyone else’s goal is to make their week a little brighter. -
Spread small acts of love.
-
Leave a note on their pillow.
-
Help with a chore they don’t like.
-
Make their favorite snack.
-
Spend one-on-one time doing something they love.
-
Draw a picture or write a letter just for them.
-
-
Reflect together.
At the end of the week, take a few minutes to share how it felt — both to give and to receive kindness.
Why It Matters
In busy seasons, it’s easy to focus on tasks and forget the tiny moments that knit families together.
This simple tradition reminds us that love doesn’t have to be loud — sometimes it’s found in the quiet gestures that say, “I see you.”
It also helps children (and adults!) practice empathy — noticing what others need and learning that small, thoughtful actions can change the atmosphere of a home.
Grace in Action
Keep a small notebook or journal titled “Our Kindness Weeks.”
Write down each name that’s drawn, what you did, and how it made everyone feel.
By the end of the year, you’ll have a keepsake filled with little acts of love — proof that grace can grow in the simplest places.
Grace Note
You don’t need big plans to make your home feel special.
Just a jar, a few names, and hearts willing to care — one small act of kindness at a time.
